STRINGS & HORNS
We said goodbye to 2018 with a day recording hot horns and super strings for Composer/Producer DORIAN WEST ... engineered by TERRY HART (pictured:Sally Cooper and her collective of sensational string players)
December saw Our Neve Room graced with the talents of gifted young duo GEOWULF (Star Kendrick and Toma Banjanin) ...
Accompanying the pair were deadly drummer Oscar, irrepressible UK Producer DUNCAN MILLS and Queensland based Engineer ELLIOT HEINRICH ... what a top combo! The team, ably assisted by CALLUM EDWARDS, spent three weeks working on some outstanding new tracks.

The SSL Room at Sing Sing Recording Studios, South Yarra is a multi purpose Record/OD/Mix room. Well equipped with some excellent outboard gear, this studio can accommodate a small rhythm section, vocals, etc and and is the home of Sing Sing Mastering...

'WILDFLOWER' IS BLOOMING
THE AVALANCHES much anticipated new album is out & going great guns ....
Produced over a couple of years, 'Wildflower' is the brain-child of the very gifted creative duo Robbie Chater & Tony Diblasi. The gents spent copious hours in our SSL room, piecing together their brilliant and intricate tracks and boosted it all with some mixing wizardry from their old chum, Mix Engineer, Tony Espie. Over the years Aaron Dobos and Michael O'Connell also made Engineering contributions to the project. We are so excited that the album is here at last and are thrilled to have played a small part in its production.
KASEY CHAMBERS & CO
A bunch of gifted musical Aussies assembled under our roof recently to help the warm, beautiful & creative singer/songwriter Ms KASEY CHAMBERS & her inspirational Producer PAUL KELLY lay down some some of sensational new tracks ...
.... Hard-working Engineer STEVE SCRHRAM also added his own unique touches to the recording as did the bevy of brilliant musical collaborators that Kasey and Paul wrangled together (EVAN MANNELL, JAMES BLACK, DAN KELLY, JAMES HASELWOOD & HARRY HOOKEY). It was a trill for us to host the assemblage in our Neve Room ... some great sounds resulted and good vibes abounded. Happily Kasey (reportedly) had the time of her life on the session and we're sure Kasey's fans will be reap the rewards in the not too distant future
THE PEEP TEMPEL
Wing Singers BLAKE, STUART & STEVE have just completed another album at Sing Sing...
The hard rock trio reconnected with their favourite Producer Engineer ANNA LAVERTY to produce their latest album - tracking everything at South Yarra (in the Back Room) then moving across the river to mix in our SSL Room. Its always pleasure to have these three gents back in our fold and to hear their mighty big sounds filling our rooms. Rumour has it that a Springtime album release is in the air ... Bring it on boys!
Not too long ago, alt indie rockmen and serious s.n.a.g.s, CERES (Tom Lanyon,Rhys Vleugel, Grant Young and Frank Morda ) took over our Back Room at South in order to work up a mess of new tracks...
The lads were again working with a former partner in crime, skilled Engineer AARON DOBOS but this time they brought British producer TOM BROMLEY (Los Campesinos) on board to inject a different kind of spice into their newest project. Overall its been quite the collaboration and the band were all smiles at tracking's end ... we hear tell that mixing's begun... Understandably we're all just itching for a listen.
2016 IS OFF TO A GREAT START
Its business as usual at Sing Sing ... ....so bring on the creativity! Hope your year is filled with it - along with a big dollop of joy - and a decent slurp of PEACE!!
MATT CORBY ALBUM
'TELLURIC' is nearly here folks! The much anticipated new album by super-talent, MATT CORBY is due for release on March 11, 2016 ...
The album was recorded last year at Sing Sing (Produced by DANN HUME and engineered by MATT NEIGHBOUR). Matt is pictured here, mid session; enjoying the process with his mate Jack in our Neve Room: (Photo by Bryce Jepson). We can't wait for the release and for those of you up for a tempting sample, check out the lush, mesmerizing track Sooth Lady Wine on Soundcloud...
Popular Sydney based three piece outfit MANSIONAIR (Lachlan Bostock, Alex Nicholls and Jack Froggatt) spent a couple of days tracking in the Neve Room just prior to Xmas...
Popular Sydney based three piece outfit MANSIONAIR (Lachlan Bostock, Alex Nicholls and Jack Froggatt) spent a couple of days tracking in the Neve Room just prior to Xmas. The Lads were working on new material with Producer DANN HUME and Engineer MATT NEIGHBOUR. Hoping to hear more of the trio¢??s hauntingly beautiful music very soon.
A YOUNGER RED DOG
Another pre Xmas session was brought to us by gifted Composer CEZARY SKUBISZEWSKI : the mix of his score for BLUE DOG (AKA Red Dog: True Blue) ...
Cezary brought the old Red Dog team together for his latest project: again using our K Room and once more working with skilled Mix Engineer CHRISTIAN SCALLAN . The feature film is another gem from Director KRIV STENDERS and this time focuses on the intrepid pooch's younger and less well-known days. With a great cast & crew, wonderful music and using the mighty Pilbarra as its backdrop,'Blue Dog' promises to be a thorough heartbreaker. It is slated for release in Australia later in 2016. A little while back, man of many talents, Mr. HUGH JACKMAN slipped into our K Room to record a track with Engineer ROBBIE ADAMS.
Evidently in training & looking incredibly fit, the star of stage & screen wasted no time laying down a song for the forthcoming film "Eddie the Eagle" in which he is playing Chuck Berghorn, a Lake Placid ski jumping expert. The film is set to release in April 2016. Hugh is picture here with Co-star TARON EGERTON
THEY WEAR IT WELL
With all the wintery weather, its been a bit of a beanie-fest around here lately: Messers JOEY DEE, ISSAC MORAN and Engineer MATT NEIGHBOUR are a stylish case in point (the lads pictured here; hard at work in our M Room).
Superb Singer/Songwriter Joey Dee has been in & out a couple of our studios over the past month; focussed on recording some amazing new material. Most recently Joey's been putting the finishing touches to his songs; laying down fabulous vocals, heavenly harmonies and some sweet guitar riffs with the help of Isaac and other talented collaborators including GARY PINTO, RACHAEL LIBRANDI and JOE MAMMONE.
THE DRESSMAKER comes to Sing Sing
Not too long back our happy K Room was filled with the wonderful music for the Australian feature film THE DRESSMAKER a "bittersweet comedy about love, revenge and haute couture".
The film score has been written by gifted & amiable composer Mr DAVID HIRSCHFELDER, who stopped by for the duration with his Manager, the inimitable PETER HOYLAND at his side. Mix Engineer LACHLAN CARRICK meanwhile took the honours when it came to the mix. Directed by JOCELYN MOORHOUSE, produced by SUE MASLIN & edited byJILL BILCOCK and with a smashing cast including KATE WINSLET, JUDY DAVIS, LIAM HEMSWORTH & HUGO WEAVING, the film is based on Rosalie Hamâ??s bestselling novel. Add to this an wonderful, authentic design and fabulous score and it certainly ticks all our boxes! Currently screening in cinemas.
"THE WILL TO FLY" - tracking session
...not too long back Composer THOMAS E ROUCH spent a busy day recording film cues in our Neve Room. A collection of top shelf players contributed to the project while experienced Engineer Producer ADAM RHODES took the recording helm.
Tom's music will feature in a breath-taking new documentary "The Will To Fly" - a film that traces the inspirational journey of Olympian freestyle aerial skier, Lydia Lassila and her mission to become the first woman to perform the most complex manoeuvre of any acrobatic sport. Currently in Post Production, â??The Will to Flyâ?? is the baby of Director LEO BAKER & Producer and Co-Director KATIE BENNIE BENDER and is slated for release later this year.
KATIE NOONAN & the POTTED DOG
The always charming, honey throated singer/songwriter, Ms KATIE NOONAN just spent a fruitful couple of weeks in our K Room; this time accompanied by her wonderful family and her trusty, excitable but very dear hound.
While the main focus was on the mixes, (being carefully crafted by Engineer/Producer, COLIN LEADBETTER) the days and nights were also interspersed with recording commitments. Some of Katie's talented long-time chums (such as virtuoso Violinist SARAH CURRO and extraordinary guitarist STEPHEN MAGNUSSON) popped in to record a few extra parts... and Katie also welcomed a big bunch of her 'pledge' supporters (who came along to sing and make noise or to simply sit in on the session). Throughout, young Engineer/Assistant LUKE CINCOTTA rallied like a trouper. Katie was smiling happily (if rather tiredly - like Col & Luke) at session's end and now she's flown away. So with the mixes wrapped up, we can all look forward to the launch this gorgeous album. Incidentally - about that potted dog ... you can tell by this snap that the 'Sassy' puppy was not always on the move - and clearly found certain haunts more appealing than others!
LUKE HOWARD & THE LUKE HOWARD TRIO
Inspirational composer & gifted Pianist LUKE HOWARD recently donned a couple of different hats & split his time productively at Sing Sing
The first of his two projects was tracking of the latest LUKE HOWARD album in our Neve Room. A host of fabulously talented colleagues contributed musical brilliance in equal parts to the tracks whilst dedicated Engineer/Producer HADYN BUXTON manned the desk. Luke had organised for a stunning 9 foot Steinway Concert Grand Piano to be brought in for the occasion and spent many days in happy congress with the glossy black vixen. Once his personal album was in the bag Luke turned his attentions to a new LUKE HOWARD TRIO project and was joined by his constant collaborators, brilliant bass player JONATHAN ZION and adaptable & much admired drummer DANIEL FARRUGIA. The three laid down some fabulous new tracks together with Haydn Buxton again applying his expert skills at the recording end.
KATO KHANDWALA & MY SECRET CIRCUS
Alternative rock outfit MY SECRET CIRCUS just spent a good six weeks here, collaborating with Mr.KATO KHANDWALA (super Producer, Engineer, Songwriter and man of a thousand talents)...
My Secret Circus are Vinny Mancuso, Dan Marazita, Pep Sammartino and Shane Evans ; pictured here with Kato (centre) and young Melbourne based engineer Luke Cincotta to his left. The gang certainly made some mighty sounds in our Neve Room and steadily crafted what promises to be a fabulous forthcoming album (Luke also lending his support to the session; assisting for the duration and acting as second engineer). Now the work's done and its pretty damn quiet without this mob ... but we're just ITCHIN' to hear those mixes fellas - and, of course, missin' your smiling faces!!
BRITISH INDIA ALBUM OUT
Not too long ago, energetic Melbourne rock band BRITISH INDIA (Declan Melia, Will Drummond, Nic Wilson & Matt O'Gorman) laid down some powerful, polished new sounds at Sing Sing ...
The lads tracked their latest project in our Neve Room; working with young gun Engineer AARON DOBOS; then moved straight on into the K Room where wizard Mix Engineer CALLUM BARTER was again persuaded to add his particular brand of sorcery to the their tracks. We've followed the BRITISH INDIA voyage with alacrity (as they've been regular clients here for some time now) and we're pleased to see their spirited new single SUDDENLY has already copped some great feedback. Exciting too was the fact that their previous single, WRONG DIRECTION was such a killer last year, making the top 100 list on Triple J. Both these tracks will give followers a feel for what's in store on the album, NOTHING TOUCHES ME ... and fans don't have long to wait now - the album's due out on March 13.
Prior to Xmas, gifted Jazz ensemble, MOVEMENT 9 popped into Sing Sing and laid down some amazing tracks.
For this project, the ensemble (Joe McEvilly,Tom Sly, Niran Dasika, Patrick Langdon, Paul Cornelius, Nick McCusker, Joel Trigg, Jordan Tarento and James Milic) were working with dedicated Engineer HADYN BUXTON who both recorded the group in the Neve Room and then, later, mixed their single in our SSL ROOM. During recording, Movement 9 took the opportunity to film a Live video clip in our Neve Room
Experienced Mastering Engineer ROSS COCKLE has been a busy boy of late ... While mastering of THE PIGS forthcoming "Home Brew" album was completed here earlier this week
Mr. Cockle's other recent clients include ROB BURKE (album "Power of The Idea") MONASH SCHOOL OF MUSIC (Kenny Werner Project album) SERI VIDA ("The Wait" album) HELOISE (single "Your City" for The Bank of Melbourne) & NY single for The Bank of Melbourne.
New Palm Court Orchestra
Gifted pianist/composer GEMMA TURVEY led the New Palm Court Orchestra through a busy day of filming and recording here in our Neve Room last week.
Special guests on the day included Gianni Marinucci on flugelhorn and guitarist Doug de Vries and Yamaha Music again provided Gemma with a beautiful piano for the session - this time a C7X Grand. The glorious sounds of the NCPO were captured by engineer producer Robin Mai, ably assisted by Matt Neighbour. The final product is due for release in March 2015 and promises to be wonderful!
Check out this cupla bewdies; V76's - freshly racked (with gold coin mods) & just back from the amazing Pro Harmonic workshop. LOVE 'EM! (Thanks a mill, Maestro Squire - as you can see they've already settled happily into our Neve Room.)
Clever & creative singer/ songwriter KATIE NOONAN just spent several days tracking Marimbas, strings and other things in our Neve Room
Katie is pictured here with the amazing young soprano MILO LAURITZ who Katie says "nailed his vocals" on her new album!! Katie was again working with Melbourne based Engineer Producer COLIN LEADBETTER who also spent a couple of days in the K room mixing the beautiful new material ... we're just busting to hear it!
HEY FRANKIE'S "WEREWOLF" FINALIST IN VIDEO COMP
HEY FRANKIE have every reason to feel good - the freaky film clip for their smooth single 'Werewolf' has been shortlisted for the Warehouse Cinema Music Video Competition!
Not too long ago the funky jazzmeisters (Jess Palmer, Ryan Lim, Nick Marks, Matt Hayes and Dan Berry) spent some productive time (without wolves) down at Platinum 1 (South Yarra) polishing off a bunch of luscious, sultry tracks for their new EP ...the gang were again recording with busy Engineer MATT NEIGHBOUR . Check out the full 'Werewolf' video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UJySP-9-Q8&feature=youtu.be Still photograph by Linda Oliveri Photography.
WEST PLAYS HAMMOND , WINS PING PONG
Man of many, many talents Mr DORIAN WEST became the first person ever to play and record Hammond in our Games room .
... Perhaps the combination of the impromptu recording space (set up by young engineer LUKE CINCOTTA) plus the the Hammond magic woven there gave Dorian a particular edge because - lo and behold, a few weeks later, the Composer, Musician, Musical Director, member of Melbourne Ska Orchestra added winner of the 2014 Sing Sing Ping Pong Tournament to his string of accomplishments! Huzzah!
SOMETHING FOR KATE for Mental Health
Paul Dempsey, Stephanie Ashworth & Clint Hyndman made a welcome return to Sing Sing Recently to mix a live album
..SOMETHING FOR KATE back in the SSL Room; again working with their favourite sound wizards, Ms ANNA LAVERTY and Mr CLINTON KRAUS who were busily mixing a Live performance album for the popular & talented trio. We'd also like to take this opportunity to say 'hats off' to you Steph and Paul for supporting Mental Health Week!!
The glorious KATIE NOONAN has been busy of late, organizing the Songs That Made Me project ...a very special endeavor that captures the distinctive tones and timbre of a group of equally talented and creative Aussie women.
Each track on this album has a particular significance to each of the singers and the project saw Katie joined by Kylie Auldist, Deb Conway, Renee Geyer, Angie Hart, Stonefield and Ainslie Wills who all laid down some sweet songs in our Front Room (while Jo Lawry added own magic track to the album by recording vocals and piano in our Neve room). As evidenced by this happy snap, the galz all seemed to enjoy the process and working with the easy-going and well respected Engineer/Producer Colin Leadbetter . Songs That Made Me is slated for release October 10th and with further tracks by artists such as MIA DYSON, Sam Buckingham, Melody Pool and Sahara Beck it promises to be a golden album. It also supports a most worthy cause with 100% of the profits going to the Cancer Council's Pink Ribbon Charity¦ Get behind it Australia!
KRAM the Composer
Multifaceted musician KRAM (Spiderbait) has now turned his hand to writing film scores and has been recently spotted tracking cues for the forthcoming Australian feature film "Love Is Now" (Eponine Films) in our Neve Room.
